Figuered capped a huge sophomore season at Edmonds College by committing to the Oregon Ducks. He was named Pacific Association All-America First Team, First Team All-NWAC shortstop, and an NWAC Gold Glove winner — while stealing 74 bases, an NWAC record. He hit .332/.444/.441 with 16 doubles, and .390/.476/.508 in conference play, fielding .986 with just 3 errors.

Rodgers is headed across town to USD after two strong years at Grossmont College. The 6'0" catcher earned First Team All-PCAC honors, hitting .363/.429/.480 with 3 home runs, 43 RBI, and 43 runs in 43 games — catching 40 of them. He was even better in conference play at .369/.459/.524, and carries a 4.0 GPA with an associate degree.

Haynes takes a West Coast Conference spot at USF after a full season anchoring the Grossmont rotation. He went 6-1 with 56 strikeouts over 69 innings in 13 starts, threw a complete-game shutout, and his six wins ranked among the top three in the conference.

Granite Hills wrapped up a strong 2026 campaign at 21-7 overall, winning the Grossmont Hills League at 10-2. The Eagles' postseason run ended with road losses to San Marcos (4-6) and Point Loma (1-10) in the CIF playoffs. The team hit .348 with 24 home runs and scored 230 runs across 28 games — one season after the program's historic undefeated CIF championship year.
Freshman Colton Windham put together one of the greatest offensive seasons Granite Hills has ever seen, batting .495 with 45 hits, 32 RBI, 11 doubles, and 4 home runs. His average ranks 4th all-time in program history — behind only Sean Bischofberger (.543), Don Schuldies (.522), and Kevin James (.521). Windham also closed games on the mound, posting a 0.84 ERA with 4 saves.
A 13-0 Senior Day shutout of Valhalla clinched the Grossmont Hills League championship — the Eagles' fifth in a row, a GHL record, breaking the mark of four straight set by Helix (2016-19). Scott Russell carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and struck out six, Jake Ervin hit a two-run homer (his third in 26 hours), and Anthony Miotti drove in two. After early league losses to Helix and Grossmont, Granite Hills won its final eight league games.
Senior catcher Jake Ervin was named Grossmont Hills League Player of the Year after hitting .368 with 5 home runs, 27 RBI, and 26 runs scored. Ervin was joined by infielder Anthony Miotti and outfielder Preston Hendry on the East roster for Padres High School All-Star Night at Petco Park — three Eagles among the section's best.
The 2026 Eagles hit .348 as a team with five regulars batting .366 or better: Windham (.495), Eurijah Schutza (.396), Anthony Miotti (.384), Jake Ervin (.368), and Preston Hendry (.366). Windham and Miotti each hit 11 doubles to tie for 10th on the all-time single-season list, while junior Hoss Harper anchored the pitching staff with a 2.60 ERA and 69 strikeouts. Two-way standout Schutza went 8-2 on the mound.
Senior Brenden Lewis was named the San Diego Union-Tribune's 2024-25 Boys Athlete of the Year. The two-time SD Section Player of the Year hit .400 with 16 RBI and 5 home runs in his final season, finishing his career with a .350 average, 122 hits, and 107 runs in 108 games. Granite Hills' historic unbeaten season came to an end with a heartbreaking 5-4 loss in nine innings to Villa Park in the CIF SoCal Regional playoffs. Tommy Entrekin hit a two-run homer and Brenden Lewis had two singles and scored twice, but Villa Park rallied in the 7th and 9th innings to end the Eagles' remarkable 24-game unbeaten streak. Parker Vance's bases-loaded triple in the sixth inning broke a scoreless tie as Granite Hills beat Patrick Henry 3-0 at Tony Gwynn Stadium (SDSU) to claim the Open Division title. The top-ranked Eagles raced to a 6-0 lead and held on to beat St. Augustine 6-4 in the Upper Bracket final at Granite Hills Field. Five members of the 2025 championship team signed to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level: Brenden Lewis (Arizona State), Trevor Smith (Washington State), Tommy Entrekin (Cal Baptist), Luke Bailey (UC Santa Barbara), and Parker Vance (Southern Utah, football).

Hudson Beamon delivered the walk-off hit as Granite Hills beat Point Loma 3-2 at Poway High to claim the Division I championship. Pitcher Noa Ponciano settled down after a rocky first inning, allowing just two hits over four frames. The Eagles finished 27-10. Read more →

The COVID-19 pandemic cancelled the entire 2020 high school baseball season in California, cutting short what was expected to be another strong campaign for the Eagles.
Nearly 50 friends, family, and colleagues gathered at Granite Hills Field for a celebration of life for legendary coach Gordy Thompson, who passed away December 31, 2017 at age 76. The press box was dedicated in his memory, with a sign unveiled by his family. Former players Brian and Marcus Giles attended. After earning First Team All-Mountain West honors at San Diego State, former Granite Hills standout Jordan Verdon was selected in the 23rd round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers. Verdon had originally been drafted in the 21st round by the Mets in 2015 out of Granite Hills. Read more →
Granite Hills outfielder Sean Ross was selected in the 40th round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays. Ross hit .359 as a senior with 8 home runs, 19 RBI, 15 doubles, and 21 runs scored. He went on to play at San Diego State.
Granite Hills captured its second CIF title in three years, defeating Vista for the Division I crown. Senior pitcher Dillan Shrum threw five strong innings for the win, calling it his second championship in four years. In only his fourth season leading the program, Coach James Davis guided Granite Hills to the CIF San Diego Section Division I championship game. Though the Eagles fell short in the finals, the appearance signaled that Granite Hills had re-established itself among the elite programs in the section.
Former San Diego State pitcher James Davis was hired as head coach, beginning what would become one of the most successful tenures in San Diego Section history. Davis, who pitched collegiately under legendary coach Jim Dietz and later played in an independent league, brought a new energy to the storied program.
Granite Hills captured its third CIF championship under Coach Gordy Thompson and was ranked the No. 1 high school baseball team in the entire country by USA Today. The 1998 squad featured several future professional players and capped Thompson's remarkable dynasty.
Marcus Giles graduated from Granite Hills and was drafted by the Atlanta Braves. The younger brother of Brian Giles, Marcus would go on to become a standout second baseman in the majors and later reunite with Brian on the 2007 San Diego Padres.
Coach Gordy Thompson led Granite Hills to the CIF San Diego Section championship. The squad featured John Barnes, who would go on to win the PCL batting title in 2000 (.365 avg) with the Minnesota Twins organization. The '94 title cemented Thompson's program as a perennial powerhouse.
Granite Hills outfielder Shane Spencer was selected in the 28th round of the 1990 MLB Draft by the New York Yankees. Spencer would later become famous for his incredible September 1998 call-up, hitting 10 home runs in 67 at-bats as the Yankees won 114 games and the World Series.
Granite Hills standout Brian Giles was selected in the 17th round of the 1989 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians. Named San Diego County Male Athlete of the Year, Giles went on to a stellar 15-year MLB career as a two-time All-Star, hitting .293 with 287 home runs and 1,030 RBI. He was later inducted into the Granite Hills Hall of Fame in 2008.
Granite Hills has won 8 CIF San Diego Section baseball championships: 1977, 1994, 1998, 2007, 2014, 2016, 2021, and 2025. Only two coaches have led the Eagles to titles: Gordy Thompson (1977, 1994, 1998) and James Davis (2007, 2014, 2016, 2021, 2025).
The Eagles have produced 9 players who reached the Major Leagues, including two-time All-Star Brian Giles and World Series champion Shane Spencer. A total of 29 players have been drafted directly from the school, and 41 total draft picks have come through the program across its history.
Gordy Thompson (379-213, 3 CIF titles, 8 league titles) and James Davis (500+ wins, 5 CIF titles, State Coach of the Year) have built Granite Hills into one of the most respected high school baseball programs in California. Thompson's press box dedication in 2018 and Davis's 500th win in 2024 mark the enduring impact of both coaches.
